Book Two:  A View of the Earth

SCAVBOOK-74-OV-077.jpg
Map of the world, taken from Turner's compendium

The second section of Turner’s Compendium pertains to geography. The decades preceding the compendium's publication were a time of innovation and invention in regards to map making. Not only were new methods of surveying being introduced to map makers of the 1700s but also new methods for printing maps. While today much more sophisticated technology is used in making and viewing maps, the technological advancements leading up to the 18th century were just as revolutionary to the world of cartography as the modern inventions today.
