Construction of the Merrill-Cazier Library began in May of 2003.

Blake Court of the State of Utah’s Division of Facilities Construction and Management oversaw the building project. Overall, the construction was completed under budget and ahead of schedule. Due to this fortunate circumstance, the library was able to expand the ASRS system.^[1]

Legislative funding was not sufficient enough to cover the total costs of furnishing the technology-rich library, so the university engaged in a fundraising campaign that would also raise money for new acquisitions as well as other library programs.^[3]

There were numerous options to leave a legacy in the new library. Funds were raised successfully as generous donations were made for tables, chairs, and gifts were also provided in exchange for naming opportunities for study rooms or other areas of the library.^[4]
