On September 19, 2005, the Merrill-Cazier Library opened its doors to the university community. After two and a half years of construction and the relocation of over 1.5 million volumes, the university’s two libraries became one state-of-the-art learning center.

The Merrill-Cazier Library is a showcase facility. Its architectural features and decor create an attractive and welcoming environment. Designed for collaboration and interactivity, the library provides a technology-rich environment with over thirty group study rooms, lounge seating, and study tables that serve as flexible study spaces throughout. The library features numerous technological innovations including wireless and RFID technology, the Information Commons, and an automated storage and retrieval system (a.k.a. BARN). 

The Merrill-Cazier Library remains dedicated to the tradition of providing users access to the collective knowledge of human culture. As a locus for engaging with ideas and with one another, and by connecting the university community to resources, the Merrill-Cazier Library is the intellectual center of campus.^[1]
