Cafeteria in Family Life Building (1930s)

The new building was designed with kitchens and labs to assist the girls with learning the arts of cooking, food preparation, and other home making activities. In addition, the building had a cafeteria and recreation area, college bookstore, and student lounge for boys and girls. This served as the student center for years until the Taggart Student Center was completed.

During the 1950s the name of the Department of Home Economics changed to the Department of Family Life. This came from the renewed support for family values after World War Two.[1] Physically the building did not change but the Family Life building underwent renovations that added more modern utilities.[2]
