Dolph Andrus's Monumental Highway Expeditions: Irene Jones Andrus

When Dolph Andrus came back from his expedition with Dr. Hopkins, his wife Irene had not seen him for some time. She must have worried that something might have happened to him on his way through the desert. Thus, when Dolph came through the door and announced that he was planning another trip into Monument Valley and this time on burros, you can imagine how Irene felt.
"I was flabbergasted to say the least and tried with all my might mind and strength to convince him how foolhardy, dangerous, suicidal etc.etc. this trip would be-- but he went right on with his preparations as if he didn't hear me. It finally dawned on me that if we were going to be a family I had to give in and go along with the adventure. After all I had married him for better or worse etc and if we didn't survive the trip we would at least be together."- See Andrus's Life Story, p. 50
