A New Chapel

SCAA-0243.jpg

A new chapel on the corner of 100 North and 100 East was completed and dedicated in 1909 under the direction of Bishop Franklin S. Spalding. This is the location of the current chapel. The photo to the left shows the procession of Utah clergymen prior to the consecration ceremony, which took place on January 15th, 1909.

This building had a rectory built next door and has served as the meeting place for the congregation of St. John's for over 100 years.

This photograph from 1924 shows the face of the chapel with the original windows before stained glass was installed on most of the street-facing walls. Despite several renovations, the structure and Gothic aesthetic of the building are still a part of central Logan architecture.

The schoolteacher Adelaide Cochran Barrett from the early days of the mission school passed away in 1913, and as part of her memorial, two brass altar pieces were given to the church in her honor. (1)
