The 1970s were an interesting time in Logan, with a variety of social changes and progressive movements taking place. These were reflected in the events that were held at St. John's Episcopal Church. A coffee house and youth club, the Catacombs, was opened in 1976 in the basement of St. John's with the permission of a seminarian-in-residence, Roger A. Richard. 

     Many different Seminarians were put in charge during the period from 1974 to 1980. These were interns who the Bishop's Committee and the diocese reviewed and put in charge in lieu of a priest in order to give them experience. During this time, the first female preacher came to St. John's (Patricia O'Reilly in 1979), but it appears that she was only there for one week. 

     Rev. Kenneth Kaische graduated from this internship program after being the sseminarian-in-charge in 1974 and became the priest-in-charge. He would bring St. John's out of a second period of visiting preachers and lay readers into its current period of steady leadership.

     St. John's continued to be a bastion of community activity in Logan due to its central location and willing participation in community events. Shrove breakfasts, bazaar sales, and interdenominational events continued at a regular pace, all at the same time that the congregation continued to grow and prosper at a steady pace.
