In 1921 the Utah Agricultural College organized a professional honorary society for home economics called Kappa Omicron Kappa.[1]  Two years later, this organization became the Kappa Chapter in the national honorary society, Phi Upsilon Omicron.[2]

The 1923 college yearbook described the organization's purpose: "[T]o establish and strengthen bonds of friendship, promote the moral and intellectual development of its members, and to advance and upbuild the science of home economics."[3]

A student had to meet three requirements to be eligible for membership in Phi Upsilon Omicron:

First, rank "well in the upper two fifths of their class."

Second, be "of strong moral character."

Third, be an "active" member of the Home Economics Club.[5]
