Associate Dean Shelley L. Knudson Lindauer has been an important force in the Department of Family, Consumer, and Human Development.  She was appointed as Department Head in 2000, where she, like Dean Wyse, supervised the transition to the College of Education and Human Services. Since the transition’s completion in 2004, she has served as Associate Department Head of the Department of Human Development and Family Studies and also serves as the Associate Dean of the College of Education and Human Services. Her work studying the education of young children in the Child Development Laboratory has been groundbreaking. [1]

Since 2011, Beth E. Foley has been the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services. She received her Ph.D. in 1989 from the University of Massachusetts with her background in communicative disorders and deaf education. She works with Dr. Lindauer to ensure the continuing legacy of the College of Family Life and the Department of Family, Consumer, and Human Development. [2] These women mark a new era in these studies with their professional and academic approach to family life.

Over the last 130 years of the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Utah State, significant women leaders have paved the way for future women’s roles in the world. They have used a scientific and professional approach to their studies of human development and lifespan, food and nutrition, and textiles and fashion. Their contributions have been enormous in the field and have helped empower women to forge professional careers.
