The brew plant was known as the Becker Brewing and Malting Company until 1917. It was reincorporated as the Becker Products Company in 1919 in response to prohibition. The Ogden plant would be known as the Becker Products Company until its closure in 1964. The plant was located at 19th Street and Lincoln Avenue in Ogden, Utah. The large brewing facilities were located on the west side of Lincoln Avenue. The buildings were torn down in 1984 and as of 2016 the area is now an industrial zone. John M. Browning invented the chimes for Gustav in the 1920s. This device was used to make music by rapidly firing bullets at the different white boxes. Mr. Becker used the chimes to play the tune to "My Old Kentucky Home" to entertain his on lookers. This was one of the many shooting stunts performed by Gustav Becker. The man in the center of the photograph is unknown. Becker, father of Gustav and Albert Becker. John Becker passed away on April 22, 1918 from natural causes. John Becker was born in Baden, Germany in 1829. He left Germany when he was 16 years old, citing a dislike of Prussian militarism as his reason for leaving. After arriving in the United States, he helped to settle Winona, Minnesota. John Becker moved to Ogden with his two sons Gustav and Albert in 1890. John Becker lived in Ogden, Utah until his death in 1918. He was buried in Winona. Becker was elected to the president of the United States Brewers' Association. At the time, this was the largest brewer advocacy group in the country. This scrapbook contains mostly newspaper articles, photographs, speeches and bulletins regarding Gustav's appointment to the presidency. It also has several photographs from the 1939 Becker Products Company holiday banquet. Gustav held the position of president until he passed away in January of 1947. As president, Mr. Becker wanted small breweries to play a larger role in the brewing industry. His theory was that by having small breweries establish positive relations with their local communities, as the Becker Brewing and Malting Company had in Ogden, the threat of another prohibition would be decreased. Unfortunately, many of the large breweries did not share this same goal and adopted policies to put small breweries out of business. By the 1970s there was fewer than 100 breweries in the entire nation.
