This is the third building of the Union Station. Originally built in 1869 when the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) reached Ogden. Made of wood, the original two-story structure was replaced in 1899 by a large brick structure with 33 hotel rooms. In 1923 a fire that started in a hotel room devestated the interior of the building and was entirely replaced in 1924, which is the one shown in the image and still standing today. The railway clearly separates the north and south sections of the lake, which have different salt concentrations due to the barrier. The northern section ( Gunnison Bay) is at least two times more salty than the southern one, and shows a pink or mauve color. The water level of the lake is very low: note that the northeast arm of the lake has disappeared, and that Antelope Island is no longer an island at all. It was produced by the National Association of Mutual Casualty Companies (NAMCC) for the American Legion. These men helped Franklin Roosevelt save democracy. We owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude. J.R. Farrar is shown in several scenes. I would really appreciate help with identifying the other men and women featured in this film. I am especially interested in the civilian bilateral arm amputee who introduced the film and narrated it. The construction of Bushnell General Hospital was begun a couple months after Pearl Harbor. It was substantially complete by the end of 1942 and accepted its first Army casualties in the Fall of that year. The hospital operated until 1947. This film was preserved as a 16mm print for 50 years by J.R. Farrar and then transferred to NTSC videotape in 1995. It was digitized in February 2011.
