With the rapid increase in population, renewed emphasis has been placed on conservation of our existing natural resources. The Forest Service has been charged with the responsibility of managing multiple use resources in the National Forests. Among the oldest, and in the early years of western development, most abused resources, are those of forage and watershed. This report has been written in an effort to provide a better understanding of the problem associated with control and management of the grazing assets of the Logan River drainage. In order to better appreciate a history of grazing in Logan Canyon, it is necessary to review some of the major events which preceded the actual grazing in the canyon. Although grazing records prior to the establishment of Cache National Forest are scarce, since 1906 the Forest Service has kept detailed grazing records. The wealth of material in the Logan District Ranger Office was made available through the courtesy of Merrill Roberts, Logan District Ranger. These records include allotment records and individual files on each permittee with current grazing rights. After a permit is terminated the records are maintained in the local office for ten years, then retired to the Denver office. For this report no effort was made to secure permittee records outside the local area. Title A name given to the resource Jack London at Utah State University Description An account of the resource Jack London, legendary author of adventure classics such as Call of the Wild and White Fang, came from blue-collar beginnings and was largely self-taught. He based many of his exciting literary yarns on his hard-scrabble life experiences which included poaching oysters, laboring at a cannery, jute mill, and coal power plant, and panning for gold in the Alaskan Klondike. Broken by personal despair, two unsuccessful attempts to have children with second wife Charmian, the destruction of his California dream home, and slow kidney failure from years of alcohol abuse, London died on November 22, 1916, at age forty. This selective small digital collection highlights his will, letters, and book inscriptions that offer insights into his complex relationships with the important women in his life: first wife Bessie, second wife Charmian, daughters Joan and Bess, mother Flora, &ldquo;mammy&rdquo; Jennie, and friend/collaborator Anna Strunsky. Title A name given to the resource Jack London at Utah State University Description An account of the resource Jack London, legendary author of adventure classics such as Call of the Wild and White Fang, came from blue-collar beginnings and was largely self-taught. He based many of his exciting literary yarns on his hard-scrabble life experiences which included poaching oysters, laboring at a cannery, jute mill, and coal power plant, and panning for gold in the Alaskan Klondike. Broken by personal despair, two unsuccessful attempts to have children with second wife Charmian, the destruction of his California dream home, and slow kidney failure from years of alcohol abuse, London died on November 22, 1916, at age forty. This selective small digital collection highlights his will, letters, and book inscriptions that offer insights into his complex relationships with the important women in his life: first wife Bessie, second wife Charmian, daughters Joan and Bess, mother Flora, &ldquo;mammy&rdquo; Jennie, and friend/collaborator Anna Strunsky. This machine was manufactured by H. Torchiani in New York City, New York. A counter-pressure racking apparatus was used to assist in the filling of kegs with beer. In an effort to be as modern as possible, the Becker Brewing and Malting Company purchased the most up to date machinery in the brewing industry. By 1906 the Becker Brewing and Malting Company factory was outfitted with similar equipment used by the large Eastern breweries. Documenting and preserving their stories is an important goal of Utah State University&rsquo;s Fife Folklore Archives (FFA). In May 2015, USU&rsquo;s FFA and Folklore Program, with help from the Karen community, hosted a Library of Congress Field School for Cultural Documentation: &ldquo;Voices: Refugees in Cache Valley.&rdquo; Field school students worked to document Cache Valley&rsquo;s recent refugee communities.
