She talks about competitive swimming, about receiving a full-ride scholarship to swim at Brigham Young University, converting to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, and being homesick when she was first in the U.S. She also talks about not feeling like she fit in either the U.S. or back in Mexico, especially with Mexican Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saintss because she was much taller and more educated than most. She recalls not dating a lot at BYU because she was “dark.” She talks about her marriage to her U.S. boyfriend and her concern about marrying someone that doesn’t “share the same culture and same traditions.” She talks about her education and work as a coach and teacher. She shares her opinion about the benefits of swimming, including goal setting, overcoming obstacles and working through negative feelings; noting to her swimmers that if they can learn to be dedicated with swimming they can be dedicated at anything. She talks about her and her father’s work with the Latino community in Cache Valley. She talks about teaching Spanish at Mountain Crest High School and having many Latino students in her classes, which she likens to U.S. students taking English classes. She talks about sharing Mexican culture with her students and the importance of not being prejudiced; and she notes there are many types of Latinos.</text>

She discusses the difficulties she experienced when she was in the US as a teen and not speaking English well. She talks about people’s attitudes towards Latinos in general. She talks about choosing to accept a swimming scholarship at BYU [Brigham Young University] over an offer to walk on the University of Texas at Austin swim team. She talks about feeling like a misfit (stuck between two cultures) after coming to the U.S. She talks about beginning to date “American” boys her fifth year of college; and meeting and marrying a young man from Utah. She also talks about her family. She gives her opinion about the differences between small communities and larger communities and competition. She talks about prejudices she has faced as a Latina and woman coach. She talks about the difficulties a multicultural couple faces. She also compares Mexican and American culture and tradition.</text>

He talks about growing up with parents of different religions: Catholic and LDS [Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints] and the conflict about religion; he talked about converting to the LDS Church and serving a mission. He talks about being the first person in his family to attend and graduate from college and the reasons behind his choice of career in the Forest Service, including work with NEPA, as the Cache District Ranger and now as a Forest Health Regional Coordinator. He explains some of the challenges he faced as a Forest Ranger, including working with local people and elected officials and winter recreation issues; and also talks about how he met and married his wife.</text>
