Here Knickerbocker responded to Bullen on September 8, 1947 and informed him that the cost for the U.P. to purchase and upgrade the U.I.C.'s abandoned lines would be too great for the company and that they did not justify the expense of $35,000 for that purpose. He does inform Bullen that they will keep Lester Jarvis in mind for any future opportunities.

While the U.I.C. abandoned its streetcar services in Brigham City and Logan, in Ogden the lines were sold off to a new company who continued to maintain and operate them: the Utah Rapid Transit Company. This was done to simplify the processes of both companies and allow the railroad to grow and develop separately from the streetcar services. Many hoped that this might improve the financial situation of the U.I.C.
