Title

Tied-House Contract (2 of 2), 1893

Description

This contract is an agreement between the Becker Brewing and Malting Company and G. F. Thompson regarding the establishment of an Ogden tied-house. A tied-house was established when the proprietor of a bar or saloon agreed to exclusively serve the products of a specific brewery or distillery in exchange for funds and capital. G. F. Thompson's establishment was located at 214 25th Street in Ogden, Utah. Tied-houses were a very popular tactic employed by breweries in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Tied-houses were outlawed upon the repeal of the 18th Amendment.
